The Journey Begins
After qualifying as a male waxing technician in July 2020 from Axiom, I began advertising my services and quickly started receiving inquiries from women interested in intimate waxing. This led me to explore the feasibility of training in and offering female intimate waxing services.
In April 2021, I posed this question to the WaxChat UK professional waxing Facebook group to gauge industry sentiment and determine if there was a market for my services.
Industry Perception: The Initial Response
The responses were mixed, with understandable concerns raised. However, analyzing the feedback revealed interesting insights that influenced my business decision.
Emphasized professionalism over gender, comparing to male gynecologists
Preferred female waxers citing comfort, cultural, or safety concerns
Acknowledged personal choice should be respected
Considering that even a small percentage of women might prefer a male waxer, and I would potentially be the only one offering this service in my area, I estimated sufficient demand to justify the investment in training.
Real-Life Client Data: The Numbers Tell the Story
After completing my female intimate waxing qualification with The Beauty Guru in July 2021, the real test began. Here's what three years of data reveals:
Comparison: Male vs. Female Client Retention
Interestingly, the data shows that female clients have a higher retention rate than male clients:
- Female clients: 19% visit only once, 10 average return visits
- Male clients: 26% visit only once, 7 average return visits (from 95 clients, 786 treatments)
This suggests that once female clients experience the service, their initial concerns are often alleviated, leading to stronger client relationships.
Addressing Client Concerns
Key Measures Implemented:
1. Transparency and Informed Choice
Every client interaction prioritizes informed consent and comfort. My website clearly indicates that I am a male waxer, meaning those who inquire are making a positive, informed choice.
2. Professionalism and Hygiene Standards
Maintaining the highest professional standards through strict hygiene protocols, continued training and certification, and creating a welcoming, non-judgmental environment.
3. Safety and Trust
Implementing clear boundaries, maintaining a no-pressure environment, and building a strong reputation through consistent professional service.
Client Testimonials
Breaking Barriers in the Beauty Industry
While the beauty industry has traditionally been female-dominated, professional expertise and client comfort should transcend gender boundaries. The success of this service model demonstrates that with proper training, transparency, and professionalism, male technicians can successfully serve female clients in intimate treatments.
The Results: Success Through Listening
My goal has never been to change minds, but to provide a safe, professional, and welcoming space for those who choose my services. The data shows that despite initial reservations, many women feel comfortable after their first appointment, with 81% returning for future treatments.
I will continue to listen to feedback, refine my approach, and ensure every client feels respected, informed, and in control of their experience. Professional service, regardless of gender, is built on trust, expertise, and respect for client comfort.
